Ernest, a successful adman who enjoys the finer things in life, is sailing through the Patmos and Ikaria islands with his seven-year-old son Marc, his girlfriend Sophie and little Max, Sophie’s son. The sea is rough and choppy. As the sun is beginning to set, his sailboat hits the remains of a sunken ship and Marc falls into the water. That is how this story begins. Readers will follow along with Ernest’s desperate search for his son, his feelings of guilt, and the crisis that will bring him to the very brink of insanity. And, in parallel, we also follow Marc’s adventures, as he is rescued that same night by a boat filled with Syrian and Afghani families trying to reach the coast of Samos. While his father has no idea of his whereabouts, little Marc is experiencing the uncertain voyage of a refugee.
“A moving story about the fragility of life and the bond between parents and children.”
